The Phantom is what they used to call the clean air converters, right?
I was a ground pounder with the 7th out in Pendleton. Got out almost 20 years after you did. I took a hop in an F4 once. (you can guess what the pilot did). None of that bothered me too much. The scary part was when he backed off to cruising speed. I was sure we were dropping like a rock.
Semper Fi.
I guess we did smoke up the place a bit. I started out as a grunt, went to pi in Dec 59 served 4 years as enlisted, Hated it decided I wanted a nice clean office with a warm/dry rack at night, wound up in the air wing with a full commission. got out 1980, called back for Desert shield and storm, stayed until 96 said the hell with it went home a full bird.
You take care and Semper Fi. to you.
