the new jasper is back in the shop. last sunday i awoke to an engine light. autozoo sid it was a #5cyl misfire. drove all around bordentown nj to find a ford dealer(cell phone circuits were busy) when i got there i told the service writer that i had a 15k mi old jasper engine. he came back within an hour and told me the code was bad exhaust valve in #5 cyl.
drove home to wisc and the head was removed. grey around the lip of the valve and brown in the center. wish i had thought of pix. tech told me the valve was not closing. jasper was sending a new head. it arrived yesterday, friday, so maybe it will get installed monday. the tech told me that these engines had bad valves from the factory. i am surprised that a reman engine would also have a valve problem.
