Headlight switch break

What was the purpose of the headlight switch serial number break? I noticed the pre C24999 has an extra terminal marked P that the post C25000 does not any clues?

i replaced my bad switch with an autozone switch,,they carried 2 different switches that would work on my 77,,they both had that extra prong,,the only difference between the 2 from autozone was that one had a flange thing on the front. i havent had any problems with my new switch though. although the door buzzer seems to be acting up,,it gets louder as i turn the **** to increase gauge light brightness,,no need to worry though i think its my steering column causing that

I got the pre C24999 one also for mine because I was in a pinch and needed it. I just drilled the spot welds off. Only prob is I dont have instrument cluster lights now.

id just pick up another switch,they were only like $15,,that extra prong doesnt hurt anything,,the plug that the switch mates with even has the extra terminal.
