Hello - I'm new to the site - hope you guys can give some input. My buddy and I are working on his truck (2001 F-150 w/ 4.2 liter, 2wd, 90,000 miles) and I'm stumped. His truck threw a code (P1309) and his complaint was the motor starting shaking - not too bad and more at idle. I hooked up my Solus and retrieved the code (P1309) and it's definition and it gave a few tips -(Camshaft sensor possibly bad or out of sync). I pulled the old camshaft sensor, installed a new one (along with new plugs and wires) and cleared the codes. Tested it and the MIL reappeared with the same code. He said he has never taken out the camshaft syncronizer so I have a hard time believing it's out of sync - I guess it can move but I never saw anything that made me suspect movement. I did smell some fuel like it's alittle rich. Any other suggestions? I thought about the Crankshaft Position Sensor but I think it would have a hard time starting or even throw a code if this was bad. Is there a particular numbered value I can watch on my Solus to see if something else is wrong? It's not a violent shake - but you can tell something is wrong - it's just not a smooth idle and it hovers around 800 rpm which to me is alittle high. I thought about checking the fuel pressure which I believe should be about 32 psi - is this correct? One last question if I need to pull the syncronizer how do I find TDC on this motor. I was spinning the crank with my ratchet and found no markings, or am I just missing them? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Tom
Clean the MAF sensor and take the throttle body off and give it a good cleaning to. Ck the PCV and its lines. Ck the spark output of the coils. This is just normal ,aint. that is needed. Fuel [ressure is 39.2 under load and like 33 psi idleing.
