i have been messing with this problem for a while....i dont drive my 1999 f-350 much but i finally figured out what the problem really is.....a while back i went through the wiring harness on the driver side and also replaced # 8 injector with a ITP[GREAT PLACE TO DO BUSINESS]....did the quarter trick inside the valve cover.....the engine service lite comes on and if i am on a bumpy road it sometimes goes out and runs great.....so yesterday i pryed the harness back with a piece of 1x2 while it was running and the lite went out and ran great.....today i got into it deeper and removed the plug on the driver side valve cover...did the ohm test...everything checked out to .03 ohms....cleaned prongs and also plug with a point file ..sprayed electric cleaner and used a torch tip cleaner on the plug.....# 6 &8 on the plug had some black stuff around it...so i am cleaning with this tip cleaner on 6&8 then went to #2&4 and noticed that size tip cleaner i used on 6&8 wont fit in 2& 4...the holes on #6&8 are larger and are sloppy on the prongs which is why the black stuff was there....i probably did 8 buzz tests playing with the plug to try to get it to work...i tryed squeezing the contact with plyers to close it up...stuck a little wire in there to try to close it up....even bent the prong down a touch and that worked.....yeah baby all fixed.....i thought......went out for a ride...the lite comes back on.......so my question is can i buy just a new plug and splice it in or do i have to buy the whole top harness to make this work....my other thought is the bone yard and cut one out
The harness under the valve covers, or the one outside? If it's under the valve covers, then replace the harness. If it's the connector on the outside, then yes you can splice a new plug in there http://www.source-products.com/publi...il/99-8612.jpg
If you've had burnt pins, and been bending them to get them to fit better, I'd also recommend replacing the valve cover gasket on that side so the pins don't give you a problem in the near future.

its the plug on the outside of the valve cover....it almost looks like somebody changed those 2 connectors with a larger size and this has been my problem all along....what really blows is i replace # 8 injector and that wasnt the problem...i should also change the valve cover harness and gasket also.....where can i buy the replacement head??....i guess the harness/gasket through ford ...right?

ok i figured it out....source-products.com.....wow thats great....thank you very much
Source products can get you the connector. I don't know if they sell the valve cover gasket, but you can check with your local international dealer and get the gasket for cheaper than ford will sell it. Just ask for the one for the T444E. If you say the Ford 7.3 they won't sell it to you (they have some agreement with Ford)

guys ...thanks.....this was one pain in a$$ figuring out what this problem was....i hope this helps out everybody else here on what you can find if you look hard enough....if i had to pay the ford dealer for this fix they would"ve replaced everything and that would be some size bill...i am very happy finding this problem and this plug fix is too easy...right?
Thanks for getting back to us with your fix. We like success stories.
what i like even better is my 7.3 runs like beautiful.....its been a thorn in my side for a long time and my wife kept telling me ....i told you you shouldnt"ve bought the truck from that guy....i told you so.......well what a pleasure it is now
