02 ignition Problem
Hey yall,
Got a small issue with wifes 02 PSD and need a little help. heres the issue:
put key in ignition, turn key, all dash lights normal, under hood noises normal(pump), turn key full position(to Start) and nothing happens. no noises or movement in guages, nothing out of the norm.
Try again and truck starts right up w/ no issues. This has happend three or four times in a couple of days. Normal one day and last night she said she had to turn the key multiple times before it would start.
Does this sound like a bad ignition switch? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks all

Not saying this is for you.....
I had a similar problem on two different trucks..
Ended up being a broken piece on the key cylinder to switch linkage.
I can't think of which piece it was.( I have crs)
When the switch was turned to start posistion, the rod wouldn't move enough to engage the switch.
If I think of the piece,I'll post later.
Look at the simple stuff first

Thanks yall. I gota run back to work now. when I get home I will take a closer look. tried it a few ago and started right up as normal. I am noticing that there is play in the ignition switch where it mounts into the steering colum. Possible culprit? Shouldn't it be snug without any play?

Does it have tilt wheel ? If so ,any play in it ?
Definate possibility that play in the cylinder will affect rod travel.
(FYI,not to split hairs, the piece that the key goes into is not the ignition switch-the switch is located on the lower end of the steering column.
The key goes into the key/ign. lock cylinder.Only reason I mention this is may save confusion at the parts counter.)
There is a switch located at the top side of the steering column at lower (firewall)end. There is a rod that slides into the top of the switch that moves along the steering column. When you turn the key,the rod will move in the switch and provide a contact to the starter. You can feel the rod while turning the key to check its travel, you should feel a "spring" at the end of travel.Remove the rod and operate the switch w/ a small screwdriver and see if it works.
BE SURE you are in park / neutral,as it will start the engine.
Basically what this will do is isolate the mechanical linkage from the cylinder to the switch.
Maybe a long shot, but I've ran into this before.
Check the basics first.
