The shift lock out on my that requires vehicles to be in Park of Neutral in order to start is broken. When I have the truck in Park often it acts like I am in gear and won't even begin to start. When I put the shifter in Neutral it starts every time. Can I fix this myself or does it need a highly experiences mechanic? If you can help me out with some suggestions I would really appreciate it.

 

what type of motor, year of truck and type and do you have a automatic or standard? I am assuming it's a automatic.

 

I have a 99 F-250 Superduty with a 7.3 L Diesel. It is an automatic trans.

 

You probably need a new switch that is located on the drivers side of the transmission. It is at the right in this picture of my 4R100. You can see the shift cable attached to it at the right center. The orange arm is the lever of the selector. It is a simple repair.
