I am a new owner and I am curious how long the no grease fitting front ends are lasting before it is time for new ball joints, etc. I am used to greasing a front end when I change the oil.
My '02 F250 5.4 balljoints started failing around 60K. I've replaced all four.
I also can't understand the unrepackable front wheel bearings. I know there are quite a few highway queens, soccer moms, etc ...... but thse things are still trucks, aren't they?
On my 06 i had the driverside only replaced at 55k. These were replaced under warranty by the dealer. According to them they were not trashed but just starting to loosen up.I would have done both sides but it was their call. I don't do too much heavy driving just the crap roads here in NE in the winter. But these trucks are known to go thru them relatively quick.

Had to replace the ball joints at around 60K and replaced the right side wheel bearing at 75K. I installed ball joints with grease fittings so I should not have a problem with them.
The wheel bearing is a sealed unit that you replace when it goes. The only thing you can grease on the wheel bearing is the needle bearing for the axle shaft.
Shoveng is correct, it is a sealed unit that can only be replaced. But, it is not just a sealed bearing/race assy .... it is part of the steering hub and can cost 2 or 3 hundred dollars.
So, no preventive maintenance possible on a part that fails at a significant rate.
