I would gladly take a 4.6L 3V anyday over any engine that ford has built. I'm very disappointed thiat it's going away. Like many of you, I'm sceptical about any Turbo engine right now.

The fact its a turbo doesn't bother me, its that an aluminum block 3.5L is going to lug around the same heavy truck (& trailer) as a 5.4L or 6.2L V8. Same engine that you can buy in a Fusion today. (w/o turbo) So is it overbuilt for the Fusion or underbuilt for the truck?

It seems like a lot of people drive around with 10K hooked to their trucks every single day? And they use all 310 HP to get to work every day? There must be a lot of truck owners that drive around with the go pedal to the floor, turning 4000 RPM every where they go?

Because that's what it sounds like?

The average Joe is NEVER going to need 300 HP daily, if ever. The fact is, most people never use their trucks, as trucks. This is where the EB is going to shine. For the average truck owner, who uses the truck as a commuter, and tows 1-2 times a year. Prolly 80% of owners fall into this category.

I need a truck but not every day. When I pull something it's usually someone / something stuck in the mud. I occasionally haul heavy loads. I NEED a truck but don't NEED 300 HP and 400 ft lbs. I do WANT it though.

The 3.5L would probably be perfect for me, but I say this ONLY if the 3.5L will last at least as long as my 4.9L.

Actually the conventional Fusion is still using the 3.0L Duratec engine unless it changed for 2009.

The GM Duramax uses aluminum heads. I was shocked when I read that but it seems to be holding it's own.

High Guys,

If you have seen what the bottom end of the EB and the 3.7 looks like you will have noticed the 6 bolt mains the solid webbing for the mains, the fully counter ballanced crank (forged and induction hardened).
The even came up with a better way of casting the blocks to improve the density.
These are rediculusly over engineered engines that I hope will be around for a long time.
As far as boost pressure is concerned, they are only pulling 6 psi of boost. That is not much and it showes in the top end hp. They did it for the very nice torque responce at the low and mid end.
Even though it is low they still added oil sqirters to cool the bottom of the pistons and lowered the top piston ring to protect it from the heat.

This is the most advanced engine ever put in a pickup, and Ford needs to be given credit for having the ***** to do it.

Cheers, John
