i found a 49 yesterday for parts. the guy wants 500 for it and the only good sheet metal on it thats good is the doors and hood. if it was a 8 cyl id jump at it. but it has a 6 that does run good, steerings tight its untouched so its all there so theres alot of little things i could use but is it worth 500 sorry i cant wright i was to busy fixxing cars to go to school
Sounds like a "deal" to me!
Not sure what parts you need though.
The six's were very dependable little engines.
But if you need the V-8 for the "cool" factor, there's plenty of them out there too...slim
Just kidding. $500 for what you stated doesn't seem too bad, especially for Wisconsin. The flat sixes have become kind of popular lately for some reason. I used to get them for free but in the last year or so there has been quite a few posts from people who are looking for them. Good, tight steering columns are also getting scarce. How about the radiator? Dash parts? With the drop in scrap prices the rusted carcass won't get you as much as it would six months ago but you should still get around $25-30 for it. Take a good look at it and see what you could use, and how much you would be willing to pay for those parts and then look to see what is still good enough to sell off.
Id buy it... I just scored a 48 parts truck with a newer 8ba, for 500, and I couldn't be happier. It's nice to have that whole other set of parts sitting right there when you may need something...Those steering components alone are worth some bucks, draglink, steering box.
i got a brand new 239 stroked flatty but i dont want to store a engine and wont scrap a good part i just talked to him and its got a title so i might just buy it and see
oh yeah that was another thing, that 48 had a title from 1971, a real "pink" slip. Cost me a trip to the dmv and 38 bucks, now my truck is legal. Well worth it, plus i am going to rebuild the flattie.
