DRW to SRW CONVERSION

I have 2000 F350 Superduty DRW. I used to use it to tow a 12000 5th wheel but have replaceed it with a 7500 trailer. I no longer need DRW.

What can I do short of trading it in to convert to SRW, after all it's paid off and runs great. Need to do it as cheaply as possible

Get a super single.

Seriously, what are you going to do about the wheel flares? It's probably not a pretty sight under there.

there are alot of thread about people going to drw find someone close and trade out. depending on the color just find a bed and sell yours. i believe the axles are different wms to wms in the rear and the hub extentions in the front. might be wrong though

To swap from dually to single rear wheel you'll need to convert the front wheels (unless you want a weird-looking truck and to carry two spare tires!) too. The front rotors are offset so you'll need a dually setup.

A good way would be to find someone who wants a dually and trade the different pieces. The next best bet would be to find someone like a salvage yard with a donor wreck to buy the parts from and who is interested in giving you something for your leftovers.

Check the lug stud diameters to make sure they are the same if you want to re-use your stock rear axle.

Cheaper to keep your truck like it is. The weight don't make a difference, you have the most stable truck to pull any load. Keep the duals.

It should only cost around a grand maximum for all the new and used pieces required. (with rear axle swap if you do it that way) with some scrounging and taking your time.

I would not pay anyone else to do the work, because doing that would be absurdly expensive at retail labor rates.

Find a cheap SRW at auction, strip it, then sell it or part it out if its wrecked. Converting TO duals is more expensive because dually parts are in demand and don't last in salvage. If you have all the pieces it's a weekend swap.

Too bad the truck is too far away, as the dealer I help out would probably giggle like a schoolgirl at the prospect of converting his 2000 SRW to a MUCH more saleable DRW!

Im not trying to be a dick, but sale is what you do when you SELL something. You cant SALE anything, there for the truck is sellable, not saleable..... it just annoys me when people dont know the difference, it just seems like such an easy set of words to get right and no one seems to be able to.

Keep the axle ratios in mind.

If yours is 4WD, and a dually, you are likely 4.10:1(?).

Most SRW's are 3.73:1, so you'll have to swap the front differentials, too.

I looked into this quickly,,when I had my last F-350,,,front axel has a spacer,,,wheel bolts to spacer,,spacer bolts to hub( are these the same studs as, wheel studs??)
Rear axle is wider then the front,,(hence the front spacer) a Dana 80 I beleive,,,took my wheels off,,,looked into it,,,you have the rear fenders to remove,,,they even cut the rear fender well out some(fenders cover this),,would also have several holes in the bed,,from fenders bolted on,,,was alot of work to make it look like a SRW truck.I traded mine for the 06' F-350 I now have,,,been a great truck also!

Wslefler, the absolute lowest dollar cost to do this conversion is to not do it. If it were my truck I would not use my time or money to do this. The truck is more sellable as a drw than as an swr. Besides, you could use the time it would take to do this conversion watching sports and drinking beer. Dan.

Being informed of the proper use of the words "sale" and "sell" just "sailed" over my head!
