ok, so i have a 400 on the way for my 77 f150 4x4... i have a 91 5.8l efi engine that i DO NOT want in the truck, but i can steal the injector off it. what all do i need to get the injector on the 400... if this sounds unreasonable, then would a ch*vy 350 tbi fit on the 2v intake on my engine? i just heard that this could be done, any info would be great
It would take a lot of time and even more money to get the Ford EFI to work. The 5.8l stuff is speed density, so tuning the efi for the 400 would be custom. You'd need a custom intake or adapters for the 5.8 intake to the 400, a distributor for the TFI system, add o2 sensors, all custom work. Is the firing order of the 400 the same as a 351w? I've heard of the GM stuff being used to retro fit with success. Holley has a 4bbl TBI for retro fit.

Check my gallery. I did a mass flo efi on my 400. I'm very pleased with the end results.
Very nice, what did you use for an intake and computer?
I used an Edelbrock Streetmaster manifold, no longer made but available on ebay and other places. The whole system is available through http://massfloefi.com/ and it is plug and play. It is an expensive modification but I wanted "trick" and I was tired of tinkering with the carb. every season to keep things running right. It increased my mileage by about 40% and the drive-ability is just like the new stuff.
^^ Depends on the intake, you can get everything from a modified carb Victor for EFI with a throttle body sitting on top to the Mustang style, longer runner EFI intakes like Trickflow and Edelbrock Performer RPM and Victor EFI. Most of the EFI 5.0/5.8 intakes you can find a box upper for shorter runners. I think price also has an adapter for 302/5.0 intakes as well.

Yes they do....and it would be about 1 inch for sure maybe as much as 3 in.
would a tbi be leaned out bad since they're speed density? would i get better mpgs? would it run nicer than the 2v motorcraft on it now (doesn't idle, just cleaned, needs tuning) if it were tuned?

NO you won't just get better mileage. You will be lean through the rpm range which will lead to detonation (knocking/pinging) and possibly beat a hole in a piston. You can't half-*** a TBI set up off a junker and expect it to work worth a crap. If you want EFI, even if it is TBI, it is going to cost money to do it right. There is quite a bit of aftermarket support for the GM TBI system and it is possible to us a factory GM TBI and computer and have a custom chip burned for your application....there is no such support for the Ford TBI system. You can convert your 400 to MAF SEFI by using a Mustang 5.0 HO computer but you will need to spend a good bit of money to convert a manifold. This has been discussed many times on this board and there has been a wide range of solutions discussed---some less expensive than others. The more skilled you are, the less all this will cost.

Sorry but I disagree..... the ford stuff will work with the spacers and it is vertually a bolt on with the spacers.... all you need is the fuelie harness and the computer I've done it with many carbed engines.....conversion is simple......2 wires for the comp. power and ground. and plug in the harness and away you go. as long as your cam is not to crazy it will work.....use a truck upper and lower and the fuelie harness and comp from same.......
