Sorry but I disagree..... the ford stuff will work with the spacers and it is vertually a bolt on with the spacers.... all you need is the fuelie harness and the computer I've done it with many carbed engines.....conversion is simple......2 wires for the comp. power and ground. and plug in the harness and away you go. as long as your cam is not to crazy it will work.....use a truck upper and lower and the fuelie harness and comp from same.......
Please go back a read his original question about using a TBI setup. Conversion for the TBI is simple but the Ford TBI units were built for the 165hp 302. I would not trust the Ford computer to have enough range in it's program to support a 400. The GM TBI is just as simple to hook up AND there is aftermarket support to provide proper tuning....not to mention bigger throttle bodies and larger injectors. If given the choice between a bone stock Ford TBI and a Carter/Edelbrock 600 AFB, I'd go with the AFB and install a wideband O2 sensor to help fine tune the carb for mileage.
I did read the original question and I still think the ford efi complete woud work better than a tbi.......and for the distributor use the 351 fuellie one all you have to do is install the clev. 400 gear......the dist is a drop in....but you have to make sure the gear is installed to the proper hight. and the comp will support the 400.....

SEFI from a Mustang can be used and depending on how much money you want to spend, it can be somewhat economical. If you don't want much power, you can use a factory EFI intake from a 302 and a set of PME spacers. The less expensive dizzy would be a TFI dizzy from a EFI 460 instead of trying to swap a gear on a 351W dizzy. But doing all this would net little power gain but possibly better mileage.

I was considering this for my Tbird project. However, the extra cost over a carb for what little driving I'd end up doing, especially if prices jump like last year, would be a minimal gain. Would look interesting, though.
my shop teacher said he could make me my intake spacers on his milling machine. i dont want to bring the 5.8L efi intake to school, b/c w/my luck, someone would steal it. how thick do the spacers have to be to fit the M?
Holly used to have a 2 bbl tbi, havnt looked lately. My brother had one on his 79 bronco 400. Best I can recall, it was a speed den, but had an extra controller that could run in "closed loop" mode. I think he had to use an O2 sensor for the closed loop function. It was on an edelbrock performer and was ~500 cfm, maybe more.
He did have some discussions with Holly tech, because of low fuel delivery, but they sent a spring that raised the pressure. The cured the fuel problem----and it would pull really hard all the way up.
It had a crane cam ~224/224, 500 lift and the projection smoothed out the idle and low speed performance. I still have some bits and pieces of the projection box and controller----I think Pretty sure the GM TBI's were made by holly, because they sure look very much alike.
It has been a while, so there may be some things not exactly as I said.
well, the 5.8L efi intake is a no-go... old man decided he wants to keep that engine together... o well, time to go junkyard shopping for a tbi! thanx for the help guys!
