Has aanyone run the dynomax exhaust kit for the 6.9 ?and if not what exhaust would you recomend i would like it to be a bit louder and throw some sock out .
to be honest i used to run a thrush turbo muffler they have a deeper sound and are cheap.you will need some type of muffler because it will really cackle.just look for mufflers you can see light through would be my advice.im sure others will chime in as well.mine is turbo and straight pipe and i still get a decent cackle at times, and a turbo kills alot of noise
anders819,
Welcome to FTE and the IDI diesel forum.
On a NA engine, you will need some type of muffler unless you like very loud vehicles.
And the decell rap sounds just like a big rig jake at about 2500 RPM.
i love the way a n/a 6.9 or 7.3 idi sounds straight piped i dont know why but thats one thing that has never got annoying to me, yes they can get kinda loud but thats how i like it.
i like loud trucks too i straight piped mine yesterday that lasted till i got back from the parts store it was way too loud for me i put a trush glasspack on it it still sounds straight piped but it took alot of the rapping away i pulled into my friends house lastnight and he was like that thing really barks you should put a muffler on it i just laughed and said there was one just imagin what it was like when it was straight piped for an hour he was like i dont want too haha
on my dads 89 7.3 we have it un hooked in the factory un bolt spot right after the cab, but they also done a better job of sound proofing those model trucks, on my 86 6.9 mine has daul flowmasters, and the only time you hear them is if your standing out side and listen to my truck drive off, or have the window down, and they sound really really good when i stick my foot into it.
