That heat gun sounds llike a good idea. I soaked mine in blaster for several days. They came out but were quite stubborn. The frames were rather rusty. I talked to a glass guy and he just uses Black RTV to install!

I just sprayed mine with pb blaster set in the sun on a hot summer day and rocked it gently back and forth till it came out. Bought the tape kits from Mid Fifty, one for wings one for door windows.

Mine wasn't adhesive, just sticky rubber (when new). It's not a whole lot more work to take the whole frame and divider out, and once you have the wing window frame loose, you can gently open it up. It really helps, especially with going back in.

As far as having a new one cut, I'd be real leery. Even a small difference in shape can make it hard to get a tight fit.

It's a good time to clean and lube the pivot.

Had a glass man over looking at my 53 window today got talking about the vents. He said he uses urathane, I said ok but if it get broken big job to remove old one.. Yes if you don't know the trick.. The trick is to us a brush and brush silicone into the bottom..then put in the urathane that now will not stick to the bottom. If you need to remove just us a thin knife and cut along the sides the bottom will wipe clean.. Use slow acting to give a nice clean time
