I know its not dealing with an 80-86, but heck bein is we don't have a mod yet to shoot down an offtopic thread
Well, guys ya'll are some of the most knowledgable group I know of, so here I go.
My grandfather has a 99 F150 4.2 5spd, and the tranny has gone to crap and he doesn't have the money to afford a new tranny. If I remember right its an M5OD correct?
Anyway, my 87 F150 has a new clutch and rebuilt T18 in it. So I am thinking about trying to swap it into his 99.
1. The bellhousing is the same
2. The M5OD has the internal slave cylinder. How do I hook up the external slave cylinder on my T18. Will the hydraulic line just swap?
3. Any other questions or suggestions to give me better idea?
This is a warning not to post off topic material in the future...
I dont believe the bell housing bolt patterns are the same. I do know the 3.8 and 4.2 have the same bolt pattern as the 4.2 is a popular swap into the 99-04 3.8 mustangs. I'm not sure what else is interchangeable with the 3.8 though.
If they could swap, you would need to use the hydraulic line from your truck to attach to the tranny and hope it connects to the 99 CMC. Possibly might be able to use a newer hose from a BB ZF of that era that has an external slave.
Nuts. I was thinking it would be funny if they were different. Put the 5spd **** on the 4spd stick and see how many times you forget where reverse is. I left the column shifter in my truck when I did my manual swap. Only forgot once so far and tried to shift using the column stick.
