Nitrogen

I saw tire store add on tv today that said running 99.9% nitrogen made your tires and RIMS last 25% longer.
How many of you been having trouble wearing out your rims.

Well gosh I dunno....

Is this something I should be worried about?

A tire blow out on the freeway would be bad enough, but a rim blow out would be hard to imagine.

No really, very hard to imagine.

What difference would it make weather it has 32 # of air or 32# of nitrogen the only difference is stability. You are probably right on the big stupid lo pro tires if they are just a few pounds low looks like you would be riding on the rim.

Nitrogen has two advantages 1. There no moisture in it, so your steel rims won't rust, but its been a while (as in never) that I've seen a rim rust from inside out.

2. Nitrogen molecules are larger, thus don't leak as much.

Now here's the part most people don't realize, air is already 80% Nitrogen

Its bs. It holds presure longer woopy I can put as much air in as I want for free. WhenI was at ted wiens trying to get a tire fixed but instead they lied and said the hole was too big and I need a tire, and tryed to up sell me a bunch of other crap i didn't need and missed the obvious stuff I did need. I saw signs all over for the nitrogen inflation junk. they even recommended that i inflate all 5 tires for 7.50 a tire. i ask him if any one ever did it. He said its good stuff. I told him they are a bunch of crooks.

If you you pay for nitrogen inflation you should either be locked in a mental instituion or the person who sold it to you should loose their buisness licens and be sent to jail for stealing.

I bet the first guy to tell some one they needed to change to summer air is LHAO in his grave.

This product is for the incredibly lazy or to take advantage of the automotively ignorant. No wonder customers don't want to belive us when we tell them whats wrong with their trucks when we have people in our industry selling nitrogen tire inflation.

If I ever need work done that i can't do my self like ballancing a tire or somethin, i don't have a ballancer at my disposal I did tires while in collage, the fist question i would ask the shop is do you offer nitrogen inflation, if they do I'll leave.

Sorry for the rant but it pisses me off when some one takes advantage of their customers because it makes the rest of us look bad.

There is some advantage to nitrogen.
It is actually more stabil it doesn't change pressure due to temp.
If you inflate your tire cold at 80 pounds when it heats up it will still be at 8o pounds.
Cali is right now trying to pass a law on tire inflation every time you have your car serviced they will be required by law to check your tires. Hmmm wander how long it will take cali. to jump on the nitrogen bandwagon with a law.

Was wondering the same thing. i'm sick of laws like that requring checking tire pressure, why do we do so much to protect the stupid?

Nitrogen has no moisture, Moisture causes corrosion.

In a steel wheeled street vehicle nitrogen is a waste.

Todays Alloy wheels are very susceptible corrosion.

Racing ... Nitrogen is the only way to go, more stable, less growth, contracts to initial pressure at set temp.

For the most part there is no advantage to nitrogen in a street vehicle.

-Enjoy

nitrogen helps prevent rim corriosion around the bead, mainly because it won't have any moisture in it like shop air can. i think that is what they mean by rims lasting longer
