To give you an update and make sure you are not getting in a good mood: Driving around town, about 75 miles worth of stop/go and 45-55 mph. I have averaged 14.4mpg so far this week.
ye gads.. he said 32 OZ cost 16.00. he said nothing about how much he puts in the tank....talk about jumping to conclusions. 32oz will treat 100 gallons and will boost the centane level by 6 points. Diesel comes out of the refinery at 40/42 centane. These new trucks run best at 45 centane. You can boost it as high as 50 C.. after that it has little or no effect. You can buy 45 C diesel. Shell Premium and other brand premium diesel is listed at 45 C.. Lubicant is supposed to be added by the jobber.. Ask any of them and they will tell you they do??? We have used it since day one when we can't get a premium diesel....it makes a difference..
No , No way. I'm not pouring the whole 32 oz. bottle in the tank. As stated by others it treats 100 galions. I use 1 32 oz bottle 3 applications, 11 oz. per tank . Ok, sorry 10.6666666666 oz. to be exact. Seriously, it seems to work out for me, & for a little over 5 bucks per tank no big deal. I plan to keep this truck a long time.
BTW I have been using BP diesel pretty consistently. I think for reccommeds it in their manual.
I use the Motorcraft cetane boost. I don't remember how much it is, I buy it by the case. It only requires 4oz. per 30 gallons.
I use the same Motorcraft Cetane Booster and I got about 12.2mpg on 500mile trip to ILL. to see my in-laws about 2 weeks ago and I set cruise at 65mph. and that is best I got. I hand figured that.
Just got back from a 1800 mile round trip pulling through Nevada, Utah and Az. Lots of high moutain passes and some of the worst wind I have ever seen or had to drive through. I was pulling a 8000 lb. TT, w/my 08 F250 CC. I had a southwest headwind down and and a Nw wind on the way back.
I actually hand-calc'ed about 10 Mpg on the way down and that was going over lots of mountain passes (one in UT about 10K) and a number of others anywhere from 5K to 8K. I wasn't too upset about that. On the way back though, 6 to 7 MPG. I was pissed1 I at one time just said screw it and firewalled the damn thing into about a 20 to 30 mph wind and let the hounds loose. Got tired of nursing the boost on the thing . It was cold out (20 to 30F ambient air temp) plus the wind dropped the temp down lower (especially in Northern Nevada).
Finally, about 200 miles from home, the wind died down a bit (except about 20 miles of white-out) and I got near 10 mpg again.
I did seem to get better mileage using Shell fuel. I also used PS additive for a couple of tanks of fuel from less popular stations. For the most part though, it was a slug-fest.
I have about 4K on the truck now and I think I will take it into the dealer ship and see if there is any reflashes in a couple of weeks. I will ask about summer or winter blend fuels around here and see what is being used.
A couple of weeks ago I was getting 14 to 16 empty and driving the rpm and boost gauge ( try to keep that boost under 15) and the R's about 1850 or less. I have 3.73's and 17 inch tires.
well your truck is almost identical to mine with the exception of my 18" tires. I have gotten 11 mpg pulling 10K. It was just as cold but lite breezes.
From my experience in towing, which is nearly every day and lots of miles, the wind can really kill you. Much worse than rolling hills, probably about the same as a 7% or more grade for a 10 mile stretch.
Your mpg's are low but don't shock me. Just about any trailer, heavy or light, will kill mpg's very easily.
p.s. I know I am stating the obvious here. Just trying to help with your frustration.
Installed my Banks Tuner on Saturday (had already done the cold air intake and Monster duals) this weekend. I don't consider myself a mechanic at all - this tuner was an easy install (so was the cold air and the exhaust).
I can definitely feel the power increase in all of the 6 positions, but the power is not that "stupid power" that you get from other products (my brother has one) - you know the kind that you just know are doing something bad to the engine and transmission. My intention was NOT to create a 'Drag' truck. This is a very smooth power increase. Additionally, the previous and very pronounced turbo lag is almost gone. The truck just feels like it wants to run now. To me the stock 6.4 is (was) a dog, this Banks kit puts a smile on your face.
It has not thrown any codes thus far (which I was very concerned about). Important: For anyone who has this order, when you get your kit make sure to check the male plug that goes into the ECM harness - ALL pins should be at the same height level (and obviously not bent). Some of my pins were very low, so carefully using a pair of needle nose pliers; I pulled those pins up. If your unit has this problem and the pins do not connect...you will surely throw a code. I talked to Banks before installing mine to see if they had run into any problems since they began installing out in California.
I am hoping for some mileage increases and efficiency. But...if nothing improves except the power... at least I will feel better about the 12 miles to the gallon I am getting. I will keep you posted on any improvements.
i am a Ford man, but i was told by a ford mechanic (off the record of course) not to buy that "junk" meaning the new 6.4 But i agree it's people like ole Al and his gore-bull-warming that keeps us from buying a truck that you can put 2-3 hundred thousand on
Whoooaaaa!!!!!, cypressknee:
"You are not a FORD man!" Quoting an unknown that says don't buy the 6.4 "junk"! And then, strike 3, for me, Al GORE is the bad guy.
We must have clean air, that's a fact--JACK! And, in case you missed it, the COWBOY from TEXAS was President for the last 8 years.
