Hey if anybodys still checkin this post, I have an 05 f150 and the passenger side hub is either trashed or won't engage. It makes kind of a ratcheting noise and just won't engage. The cv joint itself is fine. Now will this be a vacuum or vacuum control problem or is the cv joint inside the hub or the hub itself trashed, please help!! The driver side throws in fine.
Mod Note: I moved your post out in the open to hopefully get some better exposure...

It's probably a problem with the hub, because they engage with the ABSENCE of vacuum.
Look into my write up about "Everything you want to know about the IWE system" it should give you some details about the system and help you diagnose what is wrong exactly.
Ummm.. ok got as far as the brake caliper and rotor off, where do I go from there before I go to far and pull somthing apart that I don't want to. theres the little 7 or 8 mm??bolts around the outside and then the bigger 18mm?? around the outside, I also pulled the little dust cap off and the little 13mm nut at the advice of someone else and then got lost from there cause he was talking about 32mm bolts and torx head bolts, but I,m not seeing those. Anymore help would be muchly appreciated!!
Unless you have the new actuator there isnt any need to tear anything apart yet. You need to check the actuators and see if they hold vacuum. You can do that without even taking the wheel off, pull the double vacuum line off the actuator ring around the cv shaft on the backside of the steering knuckle. get a vacuum pump and try to pump up the actuator with the hose from the vacuum pump connected to the large connector on the actuator. Pump it up to a little bit above 5 lbs, and see if it holds. If you cant get any vacuum to even pump up, then the actuator is shot and you need a new one from ford. You also need to vacuum check the whole system, refer back to the thread of Everything you wanted to know about the IWE system, for testing.
Thnks again, Ill check that thanks, you'd think theyd be able to make seals and orings that would last loger by now!! Not to mention mechanical parts, but if I wasn't fixin somthing, my life would be very boring. Thnks again!
I know what you mean, my wife cant stand it! I am always looking for something to fix and i cant just leave my vehicles alone untill they are perfect. Maybe i should just buy something brand new so that i can just let the dealship fix it for a couple years, but then what would i do with all my free time!
Yeah I've got a 97 chev that I just finished putting a new starter, oxygen sensors and fuel pump in and a 98 malibu that I just put a new drive belt and alternater on and now this, it seems expensive but its still cheaper than buying somthing new. And look at all the stuff I've learned!! Invaluable.
Thats how i look at it, and i enjoy tearing the darn things apart, just along as i dont break anything. Than after a while of fixing little things here and there, you can just about fix anything. I Love It! Maybe i should have been a mechanic?
Haha, I'm a farmer so I guess thats close enough, somthings always breaking down, gets to be a pain in the butt when your trying to get stuff done but if it happens more than once, boy you sure get quick at ripping it apart and putting it back together!!lol
