429 flywheel
i have a 429 4v thunderjet engine that i was planning on using for another project... since i refuse to hook a c6 behind it, what flywheels off of what engines can i stick on the 429 so i can run a manual tranny... tranny is prolly gonna be either an np435 or a t18

Make sure you use '78 or older fly wheel. Starting in '79 they exturnely balanced the 460 429 and 460 before '79 were internally balanced. I used a fly wheel off a '92 460 had it nutral balanced and then put it behind my '73 460

you can also get one from behind a 370 engine that came in buses and dumptrucks but the bell housing will be harder to find than the flywheel. the 351m bellhousing will bolt behind a 370/429/460 but the flywheel will hit the bellhousing and depending on your flywheel thickness you may or may not be able to clearance it enough to work. L&L has a special clutch and flywheel you can put behind it to work but it is pricey, I got a stock clutch and flywheel to work but it took 2 days of head scratching and grinding to make it work.

if you find a flywheel but it is not a zero balance like the older models you can have a machine shop take out the counter weight with a little machining.

you will have to grind around each bolt boss on the inside of the bellhousing. you will also need to gring the hub of the clutch disc to keep it from binding on the front collar of a np435
