I just bought a 1966 F100. It turns over but wont start. Every once in a while it starts and runs for a few seconds and cuts off. It seems to be getting fuel to the in line fuel filter. Any suggestions on things to look for or try? Thanks for your help.

If it has the original type mechanical fuel pump, I would check the filter...it screws onto the pump itself...filters are still readily available...ND knows its Motorcraft number Im fairly certain...
If the trucks been sitting a while I would start there...drain the tank of the old crud if you havent already done so
The other thing it could possibly be is a bad accelerator pump on the carburetor.
Another possibility is if the fuel line going from the fuel pump to the carb is old and was replaced once upon a time with a rubber one and is harder then a fresh hose...replace it as these hoses rot in large part from the inside out...ESPECIALLY if the line that was used wasnt fuel line type hose...it will be stamped all over the outside of the hose...
You can also look for leaks at the other locations of the rubber hose line connections...theres 2 originally from the factory...right below the floorboard where the fuel line from the tank meets the line that runs along the framerail to the front where that line ends is another rubber hose that goes directly to the fuel pump.
Old trucks only needed fuel and fire to run, properly metered of course.
One thing you might try is get a clear empty water bottle, remove the fuel line at the carb, (you might need a rubber hose on the end) and have a bud turn the engine over and watch the fuel dump into the bottle. You can pull the coil wire to make sure it wont fire or let it run for a few seconds if it does.
When you say it runs some it is getting fire, so I agree it more likely a fuel issue, that you will have to resolve. gluck
Dont forget oxygen...aka air...remember fuel/AIR mixture... - cs65

they could also come with a"carter"- brand> fuel pump ,>4/6 psi. is the working pressure /" 30 sec.cranking= 1-pint " if low or no fuel present pump is defective! {what size motor and carb type and conditionwould help diagnose the prob.> gas/spark/tuneup>>flame on
