Spark Plug change

My husband and I just changed our spark plugs and I was just wondering if you think by the condition of the plugs if we should have any concerns?

I was surprised at how easy it was to change them. The left rear one was a ***** but hubby only ended up with one scratched knuckle! Couldnt have done it so easy without the wonderful how to posts on FTE So a big thank you!!!

Right ones are pretty white. Looks like a slight lean condition.

That's what I was thinking. I can't imagine four injectors failing the same way at the same time or there being a pressure problem in the rails. I think I would do the o2 sensors, just to have them reading the same. The ones on the left look pretty decent for mileage.

Thanks for getting back, so you think we should replace both O2's? We did do the injector service because of the pinging and bad MPG's.

It would be my next step to seeing why one side is running so lean. Two new sensors would have you doing the job once and using sensors with a much closer manufacturing date. then I would do a bit of data logging to see what the o2 sensors had to say about the a/f ratio coming out.

They look pretty good to me...

Digital Photography surely (and don't call me Shirley) can give a false impression on things.

I'm going to guess there is a light source (possibly a window or open door) to the left side of the plugs???

The picture was taken outside and yes more light on the left side but the right side did have the corrosion/white stuff on them.

I noticed today when I drove through the hills that i am still pinging and my son and I noticed a slight gas smell. Grrr when I got home i sniffed the front end and could still smell a small amount. Getting ready to go out and see where it might be coming from.

Not to be a butthead, but are you SURE it's pinging you hear? Some folks have thought that a loose exhaust shield sounded like pinging since it would only do it at a particular RPM range & throttle setting. Same goes for the tranny inspection cover. Broken exhaust studs can fool a person as well.

It is a ping for sure, It used to have a loose heat shield but that has been fixed and it sounded different to me. I think I may have it checked out by some friends who work at Ford, hook it up to the computer and what not.
