Got rear ended yesterday. I was standing still, he was doing 45 (according to the cops). He had a Ford Focus. No more. The impact destroyed his entire front end, engine and all. Me? A very sore neck. , some scrapes on the back bumper. That's it.
Question- should my airbags have deployed ?

The system measures the rate of de acceleration of the vehicle ,,some side curtain bags will deploy from a rear hit ,if the vehicle deflects at all to the side ...
On our trucks you have to have a full front end collision for the airbags to deploy. I hit a bridge going a slightly side ways going 70 MPH and mine didn't go off.
I hit a deer a couple of years ago with my 99 doing 50 mph.. It swiped out the grill, bent the bumper and pushed the passenger side front fender back an inch... My air bags did not deploy... It must be like Rick says above.. it must measure the deceleration. I did not slow down much.. It happened real fast..
The superduty doesn't have early warning sensors like some cars do behind the front bumper area. It uses only a restraint control module to determine if the airbags and seat belt pretensioners should deploy. For the most part it is an accelerometer that determines if the restraints should activate.
