Hey, can someone tell me where I might find out what size travel trailer I can tow. I've got a '92 F150 with a 4.9L engine. I have called several Ford dealerships and they all give me different answers to what the towing capacity is. Isn't there somewhere or someway I can get this info.
you can tow two army tanks and a boat. But safely you should be able to find the gross weight on the inside of the drivers door jamb. subtract the weight of your truck fully loaded from the weight of the Gross vehicle weight and this should tell you how much you can tow.
At the right hand side of this WEB site...Click on "Specifications" then select the year / model of your truck. At next screen click on "Specifications". All manner of info there (at least for my truck.)

I would love to know what I can pull as well. I have a 2000 F150 with a 4.6 engine, 3.08 axel... I installed a tranny cooler and beefed up the rear suspension..... but Ford doesnt have a clue.. The manual says it can only pull 2000 but the Ford people thing thats a misprint.... Im thinking around 5000 or so.... also I wonder if you can pull more then what the specs tell you if you have a load distribution system ( load bars)

Sorry, but as my 3 year old would say, you have a foofy truck. Just because you have a Blue Oval on your grill doesn't mean that it will perform miracles and safely tow beyond it's rated capacity.
The GCVW for the 150 with your engine and axle ratio is 6500lbs. The curb weight is 4204lbs. Put two big guys in the cab at 200lbs a piece, a tank of gas at 150lbs, a couple coolers with your favorite beverage and your down to a trailer GVW of less than 1700lbs.
Yes your truck looks like a big truck, but you got it with the little options. If you tow 5000 lbs with your truck, you will be one of those people that has their bumper twisted at a 20 degree down angle.
Enjoy your great gas mileage on a daily basis and rent or borrow a truck rated to tow 5K when that's what you need to do.
My owners manual says 7000 LB towing capacity (5000 if just using the step bumper), and I don't believe it. What is your opinion of my real towing capacity?
