It's bone stock except for the 6637 mod. I don't have a tuner or chip. All filters are brand new.
SUPERDUTY OUTLAW, the noise it makes in that video is exactly what I've experienced.
As far as gears, I'm not 100% sure. It's taching around 1800 to 1900 RPM @ 65mph. I try to keep it below 2k RPM when driving w/o a load.
bandlgeorge, you'll definitely want the mods before coming this way if you're taking the biways through Idaho. Those routes have some pretty long stretches of 7% grade.
IDPisan, I might take you up on that offer. I've been doing the work on this thing in the elements because the truck is too big for my garage.
As Dave mentioned, the wicked wheel is the cheapest fix for that.
I've got a wicked wheel, just havn't got around to installing it. I put the Aero Turbine on mainly because I got it for around 100 bucks. Next week when I do the up pipes I will put the ww on while everything is apart.

As mentioned, shoot for around 2200 rpms on those grades.

Smart move. Pull the turbo and do everything at once. You've got 4 new pedestal o-rings, right?
Hey Jason, looks like we will be putting in a 6.0 intercooler in my buddies truck this weekend, if the boots from PDP get here in time. We could also bust the WW out too if you were so inclined. Let me know, if the boots don't get get here we will be out at Firebird raceway for the test and tune.

I would say you have 3:73 gears check your doorjamb sticker.
...We drove through the mountains for about 400 miles and the truck cannot maintain 65mph in 6th gear going up a 7% grade with zero load...
For an 8,000 lb F350 it takes 85 FWHP to overcome aerodynamic drag and rolling resistance at a 65 MPH speed on the flat. It takes an additional 117 FWHP for an 8,000 lb F350 to climb a 7% grade at a 65 MPH speed! I wouldn't call producing 202 FWHP which is 81% of the maximum rating of 250 FWHP for a stock F350 a "zero load" operating condition!!!

The turbo is behaving exactly as Ford designed it to for meeting the 1998 NOx emissions spec and this is why a stock 99.5 and later truck isn't all that good of a choice for towing unless you shift to a lower gear and climb hills at a lower MPH speed so that you stay below the "surge line" on the stock GTP38 turbo's compressor map!

If it wasn't for your poor attitude I'd go to the trouble of explaining things in more detail and telling you the best ways to improve your towing performance but seeing as how I don't respond well to threats I'll let you figure this out on your own! However I will add that if you tow your planned load and drive as stated you'll soon be in the market for a new turbo!

I'm tied up this weekend and didn't order the WW because I'm still trying to read about the lag.

Will do, thanks!

Ok, well I meant additional pulling load. Running empty I meant as zero load. The 1-ton crew cab Cummins 5.9L seemed to hammer up those 7% grades effortlessly. I switched to Ford for a nicer rig for our business. We were tired of the transmission issues with the Dodge.

Will a different turbo be a better route to go instead of a WW?

No threats at all. I was a bit frustrated, that's all. My fiancee thought we should call off the trip and go home because of the turbo surge. I figured out going slower up those grades made the turbo surge stop. As I said before, we had a Dodge Cummins and it acted like there was nothing behind it with whatever we threw at it, at any grade around here. You could tell by fuel consumption and stopping, but never by the skinny pedal. We sold it to pick up this Ford a year later for our business. The Ford handled the 2 horse slant (the guy said it was a 3 horse slant) pretty well even with 40mph head wind gusts. We didn't have to pull it through the mountains, just down in the valley.

yeah, I just got the WW in the mail. If you order it, go through dieselsite. Quick service, sent instructions, and arrived fast. I attempted to order from another site and they immediatley told me it was on backorder for at least 3 weeks and still charged me a mandatory $2.00 charge (in the fine print), even though I cancelled my order. Costs more at dieselsite, but the service is more than worth it.
Hopefully install mine in a week or two. Nice thing is I can always go back to stock setting and it runs just fine, except I miss the firmer shifts and decel power of the 80tow program. I gotta say that I never surged mine with the 6637 mod and no DP, but I haven't used my truck as hard as some guys on here and I'm sure it's possible. I can't definitely say that it surges with the combo of the 6637 and the DP tunes and I'll
to that!!!
