55 rear crossmember
on a 1955 f100 ,when you relocate the rear crossmember for a rear mounted gas tank,is the crossmember flipped over or just moved rearward. i have been researching this without much luck.may depend on what tank. i still have not come up with the tank. thinking about a poly type. thanks for any insight

Sam
I saw this post earlier and did not respond to it because it's been so long since I moved the crossmember..and could not for the life of me remember why it was moved..
Went out to the shop and looked at the frame, ..still nothing
But Jaye's picture jogged my memory, so I'll add my .02$
Looking at Jaye's pic,the crossmember we're talking about is the one just forward of the fill inlet ..you can see that the fuel tank cannot be raised any higher in the frame without interfering with this crossmember..if one was to just remove this crossmember and toss it,..there is a new potential dimension for a larger tank in capacity and ground clearence.
But I don't think anyone really wants to remove crossmembers at random..so why not just remove it and slide it back? Because of the "hump" designed into it...rear bed crossmember interference may result. So an often used solution is to remove the crossmember, invert it.. and reinstall. Point the "hump" down and that issue goes away..but then again, as in Sam's case with some rear rolled pans..may create 'new' interference problems. I plan on using a bumper with brackets so in my case I removed the crossmember ,inverted it and remounted it 'flush' (welded it in) with the rear of the frame.
Sometimes it helps to know the "why"..I hope this helps you as much as it did me.. LoL!

Filler behind bumper
Would like to relocate our tank also.
Our preference is the have the filler set between the rear truck frame and bumper.
This would most likely require a hole in the rear cross member and an upturned filler.
Anyone else done this yet.
If so share.
If not suggestions.
Keeping the rear bumper mounts at stock length.
I just can’t handle that filler coming up through the bed even if hidden.
Some great work by all but just not for me.
Thanks to all.

RRF,
This is an ELEVEN (11) year old thread. You would be better off asking your question in a new thread or just doing your mod the way you want. Even if no one else has done it the way you want it don't matter, you can be the first. Good luck.

I’ll do that and hopefully find someone who has done it.
