Electronically closing EGR Valve

I have read somewhere that the EGR valve can be closed electronically with a custom tune.

Is there an advantage to closing it electronically over deleting it?

If you don't command it closed with a tune, it will sense low EGR flow and go to "EPA safe" operating mode where it limits the turbo position range and uses an alternate fueling table.

I have just ordered a X3 from innovative Diesel. I questioned this very thing. I will be getting a tune that has 0% duty cycle for the EGR. He (who ever sold it to me, I am not sure it was this Eric that I keep reading about. Who ever it was, was very helpful.) told me that if you unplug the EGR it will throw a code with the tune. If you leave it plugged in, the computer sees that everything is fine. The computer just never sends a command to open the EGR so it never goes to the next step of measuring a decrease in flow at the MAF. I will be testing this by putting in a dummy valve that I got on E-bay and leaving the EGR plugged in, just not in the intake. If it runs fine, ( normal EGT, normal boost, no code ete) I will delete the cooler and remove the scoop in the pipe, and weld it shut. I will also just mount the EGR valve in the intake with the inlet from the cooler blocked off. I have already re-routed the CCV and removed the throttle plate.

Hope it all works as advertised!
