so my bro has 03 6.0 He had went on a camp trip and had to fallow a car out of the camp grounds and it was a very powdery dirt road his intake was caked so he cleaned it really well and everything was fine for awhile. Now the thing runs like crap, you take off at WOT and it will hick up and studder like it's not getting enof fuel, we changed out the fuel pump and still does it. He has the spartan tunes and a afe intake, we put the stock intake back on and it was worse. The fins in the turbo on the intake side looked good when we took it off. Could the fins be stuck? and make it run like that, cleaned the EGR today and no help
sounds like a ba injector or relay. iwork in the oilfield and drive on dirt roads all day every day and my 06 f450 goes in the shop for this reason about every 3-4 months.
yea forgot so say that we took it to the dealer and they said"we can't get it to do it put I would take off that intake and so we did and it made it worse haven't had time to take it back in. It would puff out black smoke every time it hick uped too not sure what to think. Other then the shuddering that it does you can sure tell something is wrong cause every now and then it will go like it should thats why we thought it was the fuel pump but it still doing it.
Even though you cleaned the EGR valve, the valve itself could be bad. There was a bad batch of them produced. Also, if you got cleaning chemicals into the actuator, this could cause issues w/ the valve.
I'm new to diesels....is there a MAF or MAP sensor on it?
When you said that you cleaned out the intake and filter, thats the first thing that came to mind to me...
If there isnt one on the diesel, please clear me up.
Thanks
Yea there is one on the intake and we actually changed his out with mine and it didn't do anything so I guess we tried that too, we both have our hand in the air don't have a clue
It wouldn't be too hard to put your EGR valve in his to check it out. I am not sure how compatible an 06 is w/ an 03 though (I do know they are different part numbers when you go to buy one).
Also - when you take it in, you need to make sure it has been returned to stock tuning.
Also - when you clean your EGR valve, you need to also clean out the EBP tube (a flexible .22 caliber cleaning tool can be used). Just blowing air through through the tube is not good enough. Crud in the tube can cause bad EBP readings AND can plug the EBP sensor. This can cause rough running and low power.
FYI - For MY 03.25 to 04.25 "06E17action" - PCM eliminates the EBP sensor input. These trucks were recalled to have a new calibration installed that "inferred" the EBP reading (ie disregarded the actual EBP reading). Do you know if that was done on this truck? If so, cleaning the EBP tube is not necessary.
