We beg to differ!
Not as many Rangers are burdened with problems as you think. Any vehicle can have quirks. These Rangers are very dependable, but like all vehicles, sometimes they have common issues that are easily diagnosed and fixed. Your truck is new and has a warrantee. I'm sure it will be a good truck and later on, with the help and guidance from our experienced Ranger owners, we will help you along with any issues that your truck may stricken with.
If they may sound like a bad truck to own, why do we repeatedly keep buying them and also keep them registered as along as we do?
You see a lot of problem threads because most time people dont post weekly to say "hey, truck is working fine, catch you next week" The nature of reaching out for help is that there has to be a problem! I have not posted much in the last 4 months and my first post was about pinging. Cause the rest of the time its workin right!
Dude, you seriously need to go to RF and feel the Ranger love!! Do you believe everything you read on the net?
I LOVE MY RANGER!! I LOVE MY RANGER!! WOOHOO!!

You could put a throttle body spacer, cold air intake, bigger injectors. Depending on what you want out of your ranger, up the exhaust to 2.5", this will give you more high end torque, or for more mid range torque just open up the exhaust with a freer flowing muffler/ CATs.
I put a cherry bomb on my 4.0l, and i noticed more mid/high end torque.
One of the best things you can do for the 4.0, and you need to it all for the best effect. Is a good cold air intake. Airaid as a quiuck fit system theat utillizes the bottom half of your stock air box for better filter protection. It's called the quickfit, and they have it for 09. The second is a good catback, I use the gibson dual sport as it gives you a nice low rumble and doesn't sound like a ricer. 3rd, and most importantly is the bama engine programer. It will enable all your mods to work as a system with proper fuel &air ratio's and proper timming. There's also an under drive pulley for the 4.0, but I'm not messing with it on my 09. It releases some torque, but it's a hassle to install and can take away from your AC output. Then you want 4:10 or 4:30 gears to get the power in the useable range fast. I have found these mods to cause the 4.0 sohc to really turn on, but remember, it's a truck, not a mustang ha ha, but it still can be fun.
As for the ranger being a good truck, I've owned 7 of them and there one of the best trucks made. My first was an 84 and I've never looked back. I've owned F-150's and even a super duty since because of a need of a larger trucks at the time, but I allways go back to rangers. There the most trouble free dependable vehicles I've ever owned. I'm into 4-wheeling and do a lot of off roading with my rangers as well as my jeeps. There compact size makes them ideal for the trails and there rock solid as well as tough as nails. People come on forums to ask for help, I mostly come on to give addvice and BS with my ranger buddies. For all the rangers out there compared to the people on here having a problem, it pales in comparison. If you want a junk compact, buy an S-10, then you will know what problems are.
An added note on performace: don't buy headers for the 4.0 sohc. I bought a set for my 04 4.0 sohc and they added nothing, actually they robbed a little bit of my lowend torque. They cost 600.00$ and was a total waste. The stock manifild breath really well and are designed for maximum torque. The old push rod 4.0 will benifit from headers as there manifolds don't breath as well. If you really want to get into performance for the 4.0 sohc, like pistons, cams, heads and what have you, super six motorsports can really take you deep inside the engine for all out race applications. Also explorer express sells a super charger for the 4.0 sohc that will give you 270 hp at the wheels on a otherwise stock 4.0. The the mods I outlined in my first post are the best mods for just a good power bump without going crazy or busting the bank. Another thing I did to help performance and mpg was to swap to synthetic fluids in the drivetrain. I run mobil 1 in the engine and royal purple in the tranny, t-case and diffs, this reduces heat wear and friction, which helps all the way around.
There not links to other forums, there links to where to buy parts. Don't be insecure, everyone knows this is the best forum for ford trucks. Thats why were so active and the others are all but dead. I wouldn't do anything to hurt this forum, it's my second home, or send someone to another forum unless they were getting on my nerves ha ha. If you thought they were links to other forums, I'm sorry!!!!
