00 Ex Steering Problems

I bought my Ex last winter and had to replace the PS pump because it was leaking and had the steering box replaced because it was sloppy. I have driven it around 10K and noticed the steering wheel would only go one revolution before it is too hard to turn further (I am 6'4" 255) when I was completely stopped.

I took it to the dealership and they replaced the steering box under warranty and I didn't notice the problem. I have to admit I never tested it just drove it off the lot and under normal driving it doesn't cause a problem. I notice that it only does it at complete standstill and if over dirt or slippery surfaces it turns all the way either way. It is only noticable the few times I parallel part when I need full wheel turning or when backing unto a trailer by turning when turning the wheel at a standstill. The dealership then said its normal although I told them it has never happened before.

What could it be. THe whole front suspension was checked and went through last year could they possible forgot something?

Mine doesn't turn too well either, when on dry ground and not rolling. That is a lot of weight you're dealing with. It isn't a good idea to do this too much, either. Hard on the front end parts....

The diesels suffer from this more than the gasser do simply because of how the brakes & power steering function off the same pump.

I would first suspect bad lower ball joints.

Ditto! Turning the steering wheel while motionless in ANY vehicle is a bad habit. Rolling ever so slightly while turning the wheel sharply removes a lot of stress from all the steering mechanicals.

But it is "strong" enough to do it. It shouldn't turn one revolution and then stop. Something is preventing it from turning further. We can safely rule out the gearbox as he's on his second.

I think there is something binding in one of the rotating joints and the one(s) that stick out in my mind are the lower ball joints. What say you all fellas?
