I might have my local dealer talked down to $30,000 out the door for a 2008 F250 Crew Cab 4x4 Diesel. What do you guys think I can get out of my 99 F250 with 168000 miles? I have to get at least $12,000 out of it to make my finances work. What do you guys think?
Start here. I know that these values are not set in stone, but it's a good place to start. With minimal info, I booked it at under $10,000.Good luck on the new truck.

Have you spent much time in the 6.4 forum? Some are not very happy with the trucks MPG and have to lift the body off to work on the engine.
I have a customer with a lawn business that has a '08. He told me it has been in the shop 14 times. He came in the other day and I asked him where his truck was, he said, in the shop again. There are some that have not had a problem. Good luck.
I agree with Rick, I have met a few guys with the 6.4, one guy wanted to trade on the spot, yea, I am sure it was sarcastic. His issues were milage and service.
I have a friend that has 3 6.4's and had trouble with all 3. He said theres 1 is in the shop all time. Ford dont know why 1 of them wont start half of the time. He has had it in the shop or had them come get it so many times they are talking about buying it back.
I agree with all of the above...I know some guys who have them, and they say that the 6.4 is piece of crap, but on the other hand, I know some guys who have the 08s, and they say that it is the best truck they have ever owned.
They get horrible mileage and cost way too much. Stick with what is known to be good. Ford is already going to phase them out. That tells you something...
I picked up my new job 3 08 lariat on new years day and I have to admit that its the best vehicle that I have ever driven. It has tons more pulling power than my 99, handles as good or better than our mustang, and its as comfortable as a lincoln. The mileage sucks on it but it is a big truck made for towing. It actually weighs about 300 lbs more than my 99 dually. Don't get me wrong, I love my 99 but there is no real comparison between the 2.
yeah, i agree. the 08 is nice, but it is hit and miss. I just cannot see myself getting into any of the new diesels. the epa mandates have destroyed them.
i love my truck but it is getting old and a choice had to be made. spend $$$$$ and still have a 10 year old truck with 220k+ miles on it or just get another.
the 09 f150 has definitely caught my eye. just funny though, cuz I could get an 08 powerstroke for the same price. however, the 6.4 doesn't have the track record of the 5.4 or 4.6.
when i first got my truck, an oil change at wally world was $40. Now it is pushing $100...
The early 08s were bad news but after a few tweaks I believe the 09s are in good shape from what I have read. I love them I have gotten use to the look of them and I love the interior style and the power. If you have the money to mod it 1600 dollars will get you 550 HP (chip, exhaust, air intake) so I believe they are worth the money considering now you can get them for near nothing compared to MSRP.
Go up to the 6.4L forum for some positive feed back. Yes they had their problems when they got out but now they have alot better track record then the 6.0s. The 7.3s have there issues as well ICPs, CPS, IRPs, GPRs a host of things that can leave you stranded but does that make them bad?
you just have to consider where you stand. not that a new truck won't end up in the shop (my wife's 08 escape has been in 3 times) but the odds are better. are you a gambling man?
the fact that parts and everything else has GONE UP so much almost does not make it cost effective to keep an older vehicle anymore- unless of course, it is just your weekend toy. i never would have believed that a few years ago.
i am still trying to convince myself to keep my truck...
