I washed my engine compartment this evening with degreaser and a garden hose. I let it sit for a few hours to dry then started it. It ran fine for about 10 secs then it started running progressively rougher and rougher. I started it again and it did the same thing. Awhile later I started it again and it was fine for a few minutes then it started running rough again. I covered up the intake when I washed it. Should I just let it sit and dry out for awhile? I pulled the codes and a CPS (p0340) and system voltage low (0562) code came up. I cleared them and they didn't come back the second time I pulled the codes after I started it again. Also i got the codes p1210 and p1211, but i'm guessing these are from my DP tuner. Anyone have ideas or suggestions
Was the engine hot when you washed it? It can cause problems using cold water on a hot motor. Might try driving it around warming everthing up and with the air movement and heat should dry things out..
The truck had been run for about 15min (just idling) about an hour before I washed it. It was warm but not hot. I'm gonna set a cattle fan in front of it today to try and dry things out. Hopefully it will fix things.
Take the CPS connector off and make sure it's dry inside. Maybe put some di-electric grease around the o-ring before you plug it back in. Did you reach your hand down in the valley to scrub anything, of just let the degreaser do it's job? If you reached down there, make sure you didn't pull something loose.
The last time I cleaned my engine bay, the truck ran rough for about 10 minutes, but after it warmed up it eventually stopped and ran fine. Let it dry out and you should be fine.
I wash mine several times a year -- no problems here. You have a bad connector someplace letting the water in. Could also be wiring I guess, but more than likely you have a connector letting water in. Need to find it, or it might strand you in a heavy rain some day...
I didn't scrub the engine at all just sprayed with water. When I get home I'll start taking connections apart if it is still acting weird. Thanks for the help everyone.
You most likely got water into the connection for the ICP. Been there done that, same results as you. The ICP sensor has a tube that the connectionis in and because of the way it stands up water can easily get down in it. Blow out the sensor connection, fill with dielctric grease, make sure both 9 pin connectors to the vavle covers are tight and seated, and then try to resart.
Well I pulled my eletrical connections apart tonight. The ICP sensor looked to be filled with moisture and the valve cover connections also looked to have a little moisture. I'm gonna let them dry out then try to run it again. Hopefully I have found the problem. I pulled my codes again and I got p1210 and p1211, both relate to the ICP so hopefully I have found the problem.
