Like the the title says, I've gotta get a TC. I don't know anything about these, except for the fact that mine sounds like it has rocks in it. What should I look for as far as stall? I'm leaning towards racerx, has anybody got any more suggestions? I'm not wanting to go all out on this, since my truck only has 47K on it. The trans is good, so I'm wanting to spend $600 or less on this. When the day comes that the trans is shot, then I'll be loading up and heading to Lead Hill. I'm open to any suggestions.
Thanks
I can't give any suggestions other than bts tranny stuff. Give brian a call and see what he has. I would also replace the tranny imput seal while I was there.

Good point we'll do.

Is this what you would recommend Bill? Also, have you got any recommendations on stall speed?

Subscribing to see recommendations...
Bill was kind enough to explain and send me a diagram of what is most likely rattleing in the tc. He also recommened to check the flexplate, and if it is indeed the tc to change it.
O.K. I just got off the phone with Brian. Super nice guy, BTW. He said that it was the clutches in the early 99's and that unless the noise bothered me to "drive it". So I guess I'll drive it 'till it's toast, then get JD to drag me to AR.lol
Thanks.
Mine's an 01, so I was thinking I may cheap out and just replace it with a stock TC or something of roughly the same cost.
After all I'm pretty sure my tranny still has the mech. diode and I don't want put an expensive TC in it if I'm just going to have to replace the tranny later down the road.
You would need a baseline and testing.
Test every 3k? 5K? It would be a waste of time.
# 1 reason for a trans failure is heat.
Want to know what #2 is?
Its TC Failure.
It will take out a good unit.
Bill
Point taken. How are the OEM ford converters? Or, would I be better off going aftermarket? I know that sooner or later I will need a new trans, but I'd like to get a good long service from this one.

I was in a situation where I wanted to get a TC too. Brian wasn't enthusiastic about it and only mentioned that he had a PI TC that he would put in if I had to put something in it. Since he didn't sound like he was really interested in making the sale, I asked him why. Basic answer was that when the trans goes, and the more miles you have on it the more likely it is, the TC has to be cut apart and cleaned. That means you send it to PI for cutting, cleaning, welding it back, balancing. Fast Forward to a year later when my 700R4 broke. It cost me $400 to do that.
So, I would recommend a Ford rebuilt TC till you make the journey to Lead Hill. Either that or ask Brian what he will charge you for the TC when it comes time to rebuild the trans.

Get the Ford reman and go to Brian when it needs to be rebuilt. Then have your PI.

Any of the new TC's would be an upgrade for you.
All new are multi-disk. Yours is a single.
