Reprograming & Chips

I would like to hear from those that have a 05 6.0 and have had the OEM computer reprogramed and added the tuner as well. I would like to know who, what, they have tried and the results, recomendations?
I was thinking about Power hungry performance that has an article on here. Any thoughts?

Bill and Corey are great at PHP, MY Phoenix and Minotaur should arrive tmw . My take on which Tuner is do you want to buy from the master or the apprentice? Bill was the person who taught Jody at DP tuner how to tune... He has way more experience too.. compare the about us pages of both companies though I am sure u will be happy with either.... PHP is still a pretty new company and they are having a few growing pains at the moment. They are a bit backed up on getting orders out at the moment but it should be worth the wait.
I see you are in TN. I think they were there last weekend doing live tuning. you are probably close enough to go down to either Jody or Bill if you wanted to get some live tuning.. Wish I was that close to them
You want to get back to the original FICM programming as it can really zap the gas mileage with the factory/dealer update... However keep in mind the 6.0's are known for head gasket problems.. so you should really consider replacing the head studs.... if you add more power without it you are asking for trouble no matter what chip or programmer you use...
also best to open up the intake and exhaust and add gauges before doing any chip mods...

I really like the 6637 intake mod. cheap easy and reliable. 4" turbo back seems plenty for most mild mods...

My experience with the 6.0 in both the 03 Ex and now the 05 Ex...

03 had tuner & 4" TB Exh on it from about 8K miles until I traded it on the 05 and no issues...
05 has had a SCT on it for about 50K miles with only a Walker BTM muffler upgrade...
Now @ 80K+ miles still doing well... (at least it seems so to me and the times in my signature )

While the SCT seems to be the defacto standard for now...
the person doing the tuning is the most important part of the tuner...
I know a bit about telling them computers what to do and it doesn't matter if you have a pc or a mainframe,
how it runs is all due to the quality of the programming...

So far I haven't found the perfect tune or tuner for me... but am still more than happy with the tunes I have...
(I'm not looking for the MAX HP any more - USED to be, as the strip time indicates,
but now more about drivability and shifting strategy, but of course with enough get up & go to get up and GO )

Guess what though!
I can guarantee ANYTHING you get that improves the throttle response and boost the HP will make you grin ! REALLY wakes the turbo beast up !
Won't pay for itself in mpg but does in seat-o-the-pants satisfaction while helping the mpg when you drive it sanely

I am no longer into the race thing or need an over amount of power, I dont even take off from Stp Lghts hard and I take my time building speed, I do like what you said about take off from a stp lght though and it is a thought, this EX will become a primary driver I am going to want to have it with fuel milage first, then set for towing our camper, both ways I would like to have max efficiant operation. There is a possibility of some minor off roading, but the towing setting should handle it because I am not going rock climing or anything, that will be for the old 4X4 PU that will replace the 07 GMC and be set up for off road to do hunting, search & rescue, etc.
So would I still have to have the head studs redone? The engine is under an extended warrenty so I may have to check with them as well to make sure I am not going to void the warrenty.
I agree with you on the master vs the student, this is why I am asking as well as an attempt to avoid costly mistakes.
I have heard from many on the exhaust upgrade as well to make the engine breath better, that is another subject that I am going to have to get information and recomendations on.
I have alot of things I want to do to fix this EX up, but finances are going to make me take time.

I don't really know too much about the 6.0 you would do well to post over at the 6.0 forum about those mods... I just got my chip and software bit waiting on activation code so will prob get it installed next week... I ll let you know if the MPG improves... I drive very conservative 95% of the time so I understand where you are coming from..
