CB Antenna Mounting

CB Antenna Mounting
OK I did a search on CB Radios and after reading through 7 pages of posts I didnt find what I was looking for. I am going to mount my CB in a console from Havis Shields...thanks to the link CockPit Pics thread. Now I would like to know where/how you all have mounted you antenna (s). I have a K-40 magnet mount but I would like to mount it somewhere esle. I was thinking of making a bracket and mount it to the bed rail inside the bed.
Sort of like an L- Bracket. What I am worried about with this is the antenna banging against the paint on the truck and I dont want to put a tennis ball between the antenna and the truck.
So lets see what you got.
Thanks,
Sarge

sarge - i'm not sure if i completely understand the question, but i'm happy to show you my show...
just running the same mirror mounted brackets that i had on my '95, minus the backs of them & longer bolts.
3' duals works really well, i probably could have gone longer but didn't feel the need. and i honestly believe that i get better reception with both hooked up than i did with the single.

sarge - might sound like an idiot - but i presume that the cover runs the entire bed? heard of them being had, or at least soft liners that will run behind a tool box. googled tonneau covers, and did find some they called tonneau but were roll up covers.
now my brother mounted his on the bed rail directly until he got a headache rack and it didn't work so well, but that's because he tried to directly mount it. a guy would need something else to stabilize it and keep the rail from bending up like his did.
i'm going to look a little more because i can visualize what i want but can't describe it...

or you could do a hood mount. haven't seen one but that might look pretty good.
try this link, too. i see a few things on there and might work with the bed cover. got pics of it? that'd be helpful.

hmmm an easy NO MARK/HOLE solution is to do what i did. i have a k90 mounted on a 2 x 4 inch piece of aluminum bent @ a 90 degree angle which in turn i drilled 2 hole in and put 2 small screws into the inside of the front left fender between the hood and fender. the 2 holes will not be visable when you sell/reitre your rig, yet will give great grounding.
the top plate is 2 x 2 and protrudes hlf and inch or so above the fender to allow for easy waxing/snow removal. i have had twin trucker type ad whips mounted this way before, all work quite well, signal matches and rf fields have never been aproblem. if needed, i will up a few pics .

Spence,
I like what you did with your truck but I do not have a tool box. Yes it is a full length Tonneau soft cover. I will try and post pics of my truck if I can figure out how. That way there you can get a look at what I am talking about. I am not too keen on having an antenna bolted to my fender. I want it behind the cab.

Thanks OZ,
Great 4 pages of reading there. Now I dont know if I should get a Ham radio or not. Anyway it appears the concensous over there is 1 antennal in the middle of the truck somewhere. I wish that there was a CB store around here so that I could talk to someone and put my hands on stuff.
