My 2002 crewcab just started making a really weird noise this week, it sounds like it is coming from the drivers side, the really weird part is it only happens sometimes, I can go 2 days with nothing and then it will start for maybe an hour. The sound is hard to describe but it makes it when you hit small bumps in the road. I pulled the wheel tonight and everything is as tight as can be. I dont see anything wrong. I know this is vague description but any help is apprecited.
thanks
JUstin
If you want to troubleshoot the sway bar bushings, disconnect both sides of the links where they bolt to the sway bar and drive around. I know you said it was intermitted so you might have to drive a couple times to see if that is it. My bushings need replacing bad. It's not intermitted on my truck...
I've recently developed a front end noise too but its been kinda hard to diagnose lately.... Mine is kind of a creaking, opening a squeaky door noise. I notice it while turning at slower speeds. I can also make it do it on occasion while the truck is sitting & turning the wheel. it may do it at higher speeds, but I just don't notice it over the engine noise...
Does the noise go away if you lightly apply the brakes?
Dan. are you asking me or Wideopen? I am not 100% sure yet.. It just started about a week ago I doesn't do it all the time. I did add some power steering fluid, thinking that may be the problem, but i don't think so. I was going to try changing the fluid soon. But the 1st time I recall it happening, I was puling into a parking spot at the mall & I'm sure I had the brakes applied then.
I was asking wideopen, I wasn't reading enough of the thread to know that you were having the same problem.
Lightly touching the brakes, having the noise go away, points to something loose in the brake calipers. The pad or whatever would bounce on the little bumps on the road. Stepping on the brakes puts pressure on everything and the rattle would cease.
Just trying to help narrow it down.
if I apply the brake nothing changes, it seems to be doing it know at all diffrent speeds where before it was only on the highway. I will pull the wheel and brake assembly this weekend and check the pads to see if that is it. Any other suggestions. It does kinda sound like a high screaching sound.
Thanks for the help guys

Don't use power steering fluid.ATF is the only fluid to use.
