85 knock sensor

I've got an 85 F-150 w/302FI. It does have a knock sensor, I have it in my hand but I can't find reference for in in the haynes for that year and the parts store doesn't show it as being on that year model (or even the years it is shown in the book). I get the knock sensor not found (25) code when I run the codes. I found the wire dangling and the sensor broken off. Does anyone know a part number / store where I can get one of these. thanks

I believe you might need to get the number off the engine computer to see what you have. Maybe someone could match it up to what year and vehicle it came out of. It's obviously been swapped in from some other year.

I have the same problem and have not repaired it. The part can be found here: NAPAONLINE

Do you think this was a 85 only setup? All the documentation I see says the trucks with the 302 did not have the knock sensor, but the vans did.

I dont know but Autozone and shucks shows the one for my 85 f150 5.0 and its on the drvers side of the lower intake just above 3-4 intake botles and my 90 donar e150 5.0 is on the pass side of the block right behind the intake

I stopped at autozone yesterday and they couldn't even order it. I found it at the dealer for $88. I know the motor has been changed, suppose to be a crate motor about 8k ago. The computer is giving me a code for it so I assume that it is suppose to be there unless they changed the computer too. How can you check to see if it is the computer that is suppose to be in it?

I only buy new sensors - Also, when I installed the new knock sensor the engine ran smoother.

There should be a really long number on the computer and they usually start with a "E".

A knock sensor, IIRC, produces voltage when a knock (detonation) is "heard". The comp retards the timing until the knock goes away, so I cant see how your engine could run smoother with a new knock sensor unless it was too sensative to knocking (unlikely), then unplugging it would have the same effect.

I pulled it took the number to Autozone, it was the first one he pulled up for the 85 so I guess it's right. I think I may just have other problems besides the computer, got to keep looking. THANKS

Replacement

I could not find a replacement for the knock sensor on my 01 ford escape. Call auto parts stores and no luck, some didn't even know what i was looking for. So I called around to different junk yards and found my make and model and found one. Wish me luck...
