I need to know what to order for my truck. I plan on putting a glasspack in place of my stock muffler. So what diameter, and length do I need to get to be able to just clamp a glasspack right on. My truck is a 1996 Ford F-250, reg cab, long bed, with the 5.8. Also, which glasspack should I get? Whats the loudest one of all?
12'' 3''diamiter cherrybomb glasspack, you will need some extra piping but if you want loud that is the best glasspack and is your cat gutted or off,you will have better results if its gutted or off
I'm not that familier with your year truck but you won't just be able to clamp on a glasspack. The stock muffler is more than likely has dual opposite offset outlets and a glasspack is obviously a straight center in/out muffler. You will need a length of pipe and probably a bent piece to fill in the space left over and to get the tailpipe lined up properly again. Don't touch you cat!
I forgot you can also get some glasspacks offset like this.
I take it the 96' has that stupid little split tailpipe. (The split little never made sense to me a larger single would be less of a pain) Til you spend the money and special order one of those mufflers with the Y oulet you might as well get a good chambered or other oval case straight through muffler. Sounds like the OP wants the truck loud, might also want to look at a cherry bom extreme. http://store.summitracing.com/egnsea...=KeywordSearch
I do have that split tailpipe setup so I guess a chambered muffler will have to do the job. Is the Cherry Bomb Extreme louder then a Flowmaster 40 series? Again, what kinda muffler will I have to get? One in, two out, 3 inch diameter?
one in two out,the only way you can get them, basicly it tells you how loud it is,by how they named it,they are cherrybomb red,12'' long and they have a dimond shaped baffle in the middle of the case, and i would get it in a 3'' diameter

yes the cherrybomb extreme is louder than the 40 series..
the 40 series is a two chamber muffler while the extreme is a single chamber. the flowmaster version of the extreme is the 10 series (also about 30 dollars more too). the whole muffler is just a case over a simple wing, the inlet bounces off the wing and it exits out, all there is to the muffler (nothing else) so it is a loud muffler.
i really like the one i have one my 2000 5.4 superduty.
as for the one on your truck i dont know. i have a single in/single out 3" muffler i got from Jegs. but they do have a single in/dual out muffler too.
the muffler is going to have a 4" case no matter the inlet/out size or whether it is single in or dual out. the single in/dual out mufflers come in 2.5" or 3" inlet/outlet sizes.
I would agree, if you have a catalytic conveter your glasspack would be milder than it would be without.
I have a Thrush glasspack 2 1/2" x 28" (milder than the cherrybomb) hooked up on my 78 Mercury with a 351W and I think she sounds great. Still have the catalytic converters so the exhaust note isnt very loud or noticeable. Has a better sound than the flowmaster not to mention on the highway at 80 - 90 mph it doesnt have that annoying drone like the flowmasters, it has a rumble sort of like a nascar engine that has the volume turned down on is the closest I could describe it.
i make mine loud for fun not to annoy people like the ricer childern do
I laugh at the kids with those imports and their exhaust. I mean its annoying. Strangely the old japanese zero`s of WWII sounded the same and I just hate the sound. Sounds like paper hitting spokes on a turning wheel.
On mine though I just have the 2 1/2" thrush glasspack and thats it dont even have a tail pipe cause the thing rotted away where it goes behind the rear wheel and I said hell with it.
