5.4L 2v V8 with Tow package
Ok as has been discussed in other threads my truck has the tow package (HD tranny cooler, brake controller connector under the dash, HD flasher, and every other piece of equipment) EXCEPT for the 7pin. I would like a pro look like I see on the superduties if possible. A 7pin/4pin box mounted near the receiver.
I checked out my fuse panel and I see i'm lacking the relay (i might be wrong, wanna say relay 105, sits in the middle of a row of 3). I seem to have all the other fuses and relays for trailering, the only one I couldn't check is relay 302? or something like that. I think it was the trailer revers lights relay? I can't remember, but it was one of the 301-305 relays that are only "dealer serviceable". I went to a local auto shop (Automotive Necessities of Alabany, GA) and they quoted 205$ for the job of installing a 7pin system with the missing relay.
Now I'm pretty good with wiring ect, and as long as i don't have to wire *into* the cab I feel pretty confident I couldn't do this myself. I want a FULLY functioning 7pin, charger system at all. So does anyone know some part numbers? Any "kit" from Ford that has this huge *** relay and all the other parts I need for the job? Open to any suggestions. Also if anyone could maybe point out a 7pin/4pin box to go back that that would be great.
My truck currently has a 4pin in the back, with the blue brake controller wire taped to the harness just right before the 4pin harness mounts to the receiver.
I'll have to look again when I have time, but I still don't see any harnesses/wires going to the back door area. There is one *huge* group of harnesses hanging up there though and that's where the 4pin from the back seems to tie in, so I'll have to investigate further.
I've got a '99 Expy with 7-pin only bracket. I'm a fan of the 4-pin adaptor, just plugs right in to the 7-pin with the standard 4-pin connection on the other side. Its nice and clean, if you want the combo though, maybe you could get the bracket off a SuperDuty at a junkyard and make it work on the expy? I've seen the superduty brackets that have the hole for the 7-pin and a side slot that the 4-pin part can slide into.
I just had a 7 pin connector added to my 1999 Expi. It had everything in the fuse/relay box, just didn't have the connector. A local trailer sales place did it for $46 total, including a new bracket.
I found a nice 4/7pin at my local OReillys. It has a 4pin plus 3 wires, and then a capped 4/7pin combo plugs on the outside with mounting hardware and everything. It's 28$+taxes. I got the relay for 16$, 30amp continuous rated. Just have to get the wires now and i'll be good.
