hey there all i am looking at buying a camper. i am driving a 99 f150 supercab 4 wheel drive with the 5.4 triton v8 and 3.55 gears. the trailer is 6170 dry and i have all the info. i have 1530 lbs to spare sittin still but when i load it im sure i will be at the max of 7700lbs. ofcourse the camper salesman says i will be in good shape but wanted to ask some of the more experienced towers. can i make it safely or should i look for more truck? thanks all LB
I think 5000Lb is more than enough for 150. You take a 5000Lb trailer add 1 ATV in the truck, gas, water in the trailer, food, clothing, riding gear, and beer. Now that 150 has more like a 7,000Lb load to work with. I traded the pop up for a 27Ft 5000Lb bunk house this spring. I then traded the V-10 for an 02 PSD. Traveling in the mountains of Co just takes to much out of the V-10 to do it week after week.
need a bit more truck, I've got a 95 eddie bauer 150, heavy half, that pulls a 18 ft gooseneck trailer, loaded it's a touch much especially when the load starts to move. We've already went to heavy duty tires and some other mods. Of couse the dealer swore to my dad that this pickup could pull the trailer, but he didnt say any thing about being all over the road. The pickup that we traded in on this 150 was a 86' F250 Waldoch super cab, heavy 3/4, with a 460, 4.10 gears and a 4 spd manual tranny, great truck, but needed to have a fuel truck pace it.
We should have went with the PS 250 instead of the 150.
You could try air bags on the leaf springs and a rear sway bar, not sure if that's a real good idea though.
either get a smaller trailer, or a bigger truck...truck is the way i'd go...
