Got my April issue of Car & Driver today. They have the model 4600 shocks we have been buying on the last page of the magazine. But..... they are pictured with the blue accordion style boots. They look much better than the smooth boots!!
They also have the model 5100 shocks for lifted trucks pictured. They appear to be a chrome finish with a black accordion style boot. They are extremely good looking! But they won't work with a standard non-lifted Excursion.

if you did'nt install them yet maybe shockwarehouse will take them back and give you the style i received. i beleive the 5100's are nickel plated. i could'nt get all four.so i did'nt want two different colored shocks. i think they only offered them for the front for my truck i'm not sure. they were more money and i was told on my truck they did'nt qualify for the buy three get one free deal. i also would have prefered them.
As many people on these boards that bought from them it would be hard to believe that they have old stock,Maybe they come both ways. Like VASheriff I wish I knew about that before I got mine. Could always change the boots though down the road a little.
maybe they can send you the boots. are the fronts rubber and the rears metal boots? you should be able to swap the fronts out. they are just zip-tied on. maybe you can remove the metal boots and add the accordian style to the back also. you can even get black boots to tone them down a little. keep us posted on the service shockwarehouse.com gives you. getting a deal on a product is one thing but getting good service after you spend money is another.
Spinella, I get over stuff pretty fast. When I saw the ad today, my blood pressure went up a few points. But I am somewhat resigned to give it the "50 year test" right now -- 50 years from now, who cares if I had the smooth boot or the accordian type boot?
I had mine installed today and they feel a lil bit tighter, and a lil less rock going into driveways at an angle. Lil smoother over bumps as well, not as much noise inside over bumps, and some of teh smaller ones arent felt as much.
My old shocks were in good shape still and the shop asked me if I wanted to keep em since they were fine, I just had em toss them out though, they would end up in my garage for 5 years before I ended up throwing em out anyway.
So overall, not a huge change, but it is noticable, and with the good deal and my fairly high mileage stockers I feel it was worth the upgrade.
