what type of gear should i get to restab the distributor? i put a comp cam in it, and the choices are iron, steel, or bronze. i ordered the steel gear but somehow feel i did the wrong thing, but i still have time to cancel. also, how do i go about stabbing this thing so that it will be right?
A standard or performance cast cam will use an iron gear - that takes care of about 90% of the FE engines out there.
A bronze gear is only used with a steel roller cam. Race car stuff - you'd probably know if you needed one of those.
Steel gears are an alternative for certain roller cam cores. They were made by/for Crane. Since Crane is closed they are something of a non-issue right now.
