hoping someone can help. im working on a 2003 f350 with a 6.0. i have done everything the factory manual told me to do to get the turbo down pipe out. cant get it to clear. has anyone had this problem? can any one give me any ideas?
thanks

You have to put a jack under the tranny and remove the transmission mount. Then lower the jack a bit which will drop the back of the engine and give you enough clearance to get it out.
make sure all of the heat wrap is cut off of the pipe also..it's very difficult to get out with it installed...nasty stuff...wear your glasses and a long sleeve shirt..
i have the truck on a lift. the book says to drop back of engine 1 inch to ease the removal of pipe. i tried 1 inch i tried 4 inches. still gets hung up on the flange and the valve cover or the flange and intake. cant cut the pipe. need to reinstall it.
You have to cut it to get it out. I used a grinder with a cutting disk. You can do it the way mentioned above but most people cut it.
That's what I did on my 2003. From the top, reach in as far as you can with a cutoff tool, sawzall, etc, and cut off as much as you can past the top elbow.
But, of course, that won't work if you're re-installing the stock downpipe, so you'll have to drop the engine farther like Jason mentions.
I was able to get the down pipe out, had to get it past the valve cover berfore you lower the motor, then lower rear of motor and you should be able to get it out, if i remember right, if you lower the motor, the valve cover gets closer to the firewall and you will not be able to get by it. It took alot of finess and twisting to get it in the position to clear everything. Hope this helps.
thanks for the input. had to do oil pan and dropped transmission. after taking trans out, the pipe fell right out. had to replace the exaust manifolds and all the piping to the exaust. exaust parts dont last long in new jersey. thanks again for all your help.

Holy crap that is alot of work to get the DP out.No wonder cut it off is the known way to get it out.
Is it fairly easy to get the up pipe out compared to the down pipe? I plan on removing the up pipe to do EGR delete and want to know if it can be done fairly easy....

No comparison. The passenger-side up-pipe is a snap.
