5.4L questions...

97 eddie wiht the 5.4 and i tow my 1 ton jeep with it and want some more power.

would this be worth the money?
A CAI Volant or K&N, cat back and a tuner.
what would be a good brand of tuner? I was thinking one with a tow tq mode. Are all the tuners the same when it comes to the shift patterns? Would I need to beef up anything to ease towing?

Jim

The first thing that I would get is the tuner. I happen to like the DiabloSport. This is the only thing that will really help out with power.
The CAI is more of a bling under hood item, and it won't contribute much. Whatever, be sure to get a true "cold air" intake kit.
As for the cat back system, don't go overboard here either. The stock system is sufficient and if you go changing much, you can actually loose low end torque which is what you really are trying to enhance. Good luck!

If your truck didn't come with a towing package, then a transmission cooler, heavy duty shocks and a 7 pin trailer tow connector would be in order.

I am the other way around, you need to get all the mods first then have the proper tune put into the tuner for all the mods you have. Any competent tuner can adjust for everything else you have done instead of just getting the same old canned tune.

skip the K&N and other intakes. the tuner is only thing that can add power.--- if you need it.

Just clean your MAF with the appropriate cleaning fluid and be sure not to touch the fine wire in the MAF.

The DiabloSport allows you to tune a number of engine parameters including the transmission.

Intakes and exhaust mods are not needed unless you do a lot of wide open throttle applications when you are driving the truck. Foe example, if you are towing a lot through the mountains where you get to a wide open throttle condition when climbing up a long hill, then you might realize some gains from these types of mods. Otherwise, they don't do much good.
