I have an '86 f-150 4X4. I just discovered the frame has broken, on the passenger side, near the firewall.
I have never seen a frame broken here. Has anyone else had a problem like this?
I have pulled it back into place and welded it. I am wondering if the welds will hold. I welded it , then welded plates over the broken area.
I have no idea how long this has been broken and have no idea as to what caused it. I have owned the truck for a few years and guess it is possible that it was broken when I bought it.
The frames on these trucks have been known to break several different places. I can only guess a truck that is used hard for many years would be prone to this problem.
should hold.. ive fixed frames by welding plates.. i always drilled about 10 holes in each plate and welded inside the holes too, this way you gain surface area on the welds
