Hello, has anyone swaped in a 7.3l idi into a 73-79 f250. I have a 79 f250 crew cab 2wd short box 460 auto with 69 000miles. I have a donor 7.3l in a 83 bronco with a five spd.
Thanks Dave
Oh sorry! I totally wasn't thinking. I thought "diesel" and instantly thought of that link. The internet form of "speaking before thinking"... Well, if you come across a Cummins I guess...
The good news is, you could use your 460's C6 behind the diesel if you wanted to simplify the swap. I don't know how direct of a bolt-up that is though. The 460 radiator is also good to go. Plus the truck isn't 4WD, which always makes things easier.
I also recommend using the Search feature for the '73-'79 forum. I'm sure this topic has been covered before.

Good luck.
You need to do some research, the diesel and big block engines have a slightly different bellhousing. They are similar but won't bolt up. Make sure the information you give is accurate.
The only major fab work to be done that i have run into thus far has been that you have to take the motor mount towers from your truck and the donor truck and put them together to fit the 7.3, and depending on which trans you opt to go with, you may have to build an adapter plate for the tranny mount. I havent run into anything major other than that... but i have yet to put the body back on either.
