3 Speed Shifter Levers? Linkage?

I'm lookin for another set of 3 speed gear selectors for a column shift. I've been looking around and I can't find any. I'm talking about the linkage between the column and the tranny. I have my original set, but I need another. Are they available new?

Anyone going to the Charlotte NC swap meet April 2-5? I'm hoping to find a T-85 OD Tranny there. I may find these linkages there if I knew there proper name. I'm also going to be looking for a good 223 radiator.

I've got too many projects right now,
1. 1964 short bed, short bed, non-custom cab, 223
2. 1961 Unibody, short bed, small window, 292
3. 1965 long bed swap to a 1993 idi Diesel chassie (I need a good long bed)

whats wrong with the old parts ??? If its the slop and all...bushing repair kits are still available from Ford as I recall...Bills posted the p/n so many times I oughta have it memorized...but I dont...this kit is for the bushings that pop into the shift levers at the end of the column...if these are worn out, it usually ends up with stuck linkage usually needing a lil love tap to free it up...

There are two manual control selector levers at the bottom of the steering column, under the hood.

This is where the two shift rods from the 3 speed manual or 3 speed O/D transmissions attach.

My question is: What YEAR are these for? 1961/64 parts are not the same as 1965 and later.

1961/64: 2WD is not the same as 4WD, F100/250 is not the same as F350.

If you just need the bushings and insulators, these were sold separately as a kit, but....

The kit used 1961/64 is not the same as the kit used 1965/79.

The levers are obsolete, so is the bushing & insulator kit used 1961/64...but I found all these parts NOS in NC, KY, NY & OH at obsolete parts vendors.

Let me know what you are working on...I'll list all the part numbers and who has them.

Old Parts

I did use the old parts, but on another truck. The one I used them on had a top load shifter stickin through the floor. It looked like someone used an old can opener to peel away the floor. So I need another set to put it back on the column.

It's a 1964 F100 with a 223 and three on the tree.

Just in case you have similar info on my rig:
'61 F100 w/ 4speed. Shifter is on the floor, 1st gear is granny-gear, and reverse is up and to the right.
My shift **** has come apart due to age and I'm not finding a replacement that shows the R in the far upper right. Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to FTE

This is the correct shift **** for your application:

TEAA7213A .. Borg Warner T-98 Shift **** / Obsolete

Sorry, no Ford Dealer or obsolete parts vendor has any.
------------------------------------------------------
The 1948/56 trucks with T-98's used a different ****, but what the difference is, I dunno.

BB7213A .. Borg Warner T-98 Shift **** / Obsolete

This **** dates all the way back to 1928, was used with other transmissions.

It may not have the shift pattern on it, the thread size may be different.

However, I did find some of these NOS (at a few FoMoCo dealers, no obsolete parts vendors have any), so you could call and get a description.

HORIZON aka SEA-TAC FORD TRUCK in Seattle WA has one = 800-662-2749.

KINSEL L/M in Beaumont TX has one = 800-816-2894.

PEACH STATE FORD TRUCK in Norcross GA has two.

BOB ALLEN FORD in Overland Park KS has one = 800-676-0675.

You need to make sure there isn't a problem inside the column before trying to go back with the column shift. That is why alot of vehicles ended up with floor shifters. And from what I understand, if there is a problem inside the column, they are difficult/nearly impossible to fix without column replacement.

Why do people replace 3 on the tree with 3 on the floor?

It usually has to do with only two things.
----------------------------------------
#1.

When the rubber bushings used on the two manual control selector levers (bottom of the column, under the hood) crack apart...the shift lever BINDS up between 1st and 2nd gear.

Because people do not know where to get the bushing kit to fix the problem (most Ford partsmen today are usually no help at all), 3 on the tree becomes 3 on the floor.

The facts are, the bushing kit is still available from Ford for 1965/79's: C5TZ7343A.

And dozens of the 3 different kits used 1953/64 are available from obsolete parts vendors.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
#2.

People replace the 3 on the tree column shift with a floor shift because the shift lever pops out of gear.

Guess what?

The same problem exists with the floor shift...because the BRASS syncronizer blocker rings in the transmission are worn down to a nub.

Popping out of gear has nothing to do with any parts related to the 3 speed's steering column.

What is the average cost of replacing the bushings for column shift on the '64's? F100.
