This morning I discovered something, I have failing ball joints!! Big surprise on a Ford Superduty!! lol
Any who, my 2004 SD has screeching ball joints, and to top things off... they are grease-less, another ingenious idea by the ford eng. dept. Can I drill out the bottom of the ball joint and add a grease fitting?
Am I doomed to fail, or make things worse by attempting this?
You can, but not while its still installed, but if the balljoint is already gone, its pointless. You would be better off replacing them with some that already have grease fittings if the current ones are bad.
If yours have already started to fail, if it was me, I would just go ahead and replace them all with ones that already have the zerk fitting.
Hope this helps.
I figure I can drill out the lower joint and hope that is the one that is making noise. I just wondered if anyone has ever drilled one out to add a grease fitting.
i've done it on 4wheelers, but havent yet done it to anything else, but like I said you cant do it while its still installed together, well you can, but it wont last long.
