My code reader won't work with my '99

What are my options? I got this truck used, and maybe it's just a wiring issue and I still just haven't found the culprit.

However, in searching the boards, I am seeing that it might not be OBD II compliant anyway? I have the 5.4, and thread I saw that on was addressing a diesel, I think.

Is there any way to address the computer other than the port beneath the dash? I am trying to track down a bad COP. If there is an easy way to do that, then I will do that and just live with the CEL.

Thanks.

You are OBD II. All cars/trucks built after Jan 1996 are OBD II.

Actually, I started with replacing the blown fuse. There is one wire that is pulled away from the bundle, light blue with a yellow stripe, that is just snipped and not connected to anything. All of the pins on the connector are accounted for and hooked up, so I am not sure what this wire is for. Ground?

Any ideas?

sorry jamieson, no idea here. Did you try using a meter to see if you have power?

I believe the 99 super duty is obd1. obd2 was light duty. my 99 reads as an obd1. it does not follow the passenger car regs - kinda like when you won't see gas mileage on the window sticker of a 3/4 ton vehicle.

So my OBD II reader will not work in any way, shape, or form with the truck then?

And does OBD I specify things like specific cylinder misfires?

I would have to buy the odd-ball. Arg.

ok, after scouting around on the web a bit, does OBD I use the same pigtails as EEC-IV? I've got several readers for that.

So pigtails under the hood instead of a dead OBD II port under the dash?

Thanks all.
