Trouble is I cannot get the darn ECU out. For 1997 the instructions say remove the ECU from the front of the firewall. Trouble is the ECU hits the wheel well before it will slide all the way forward and out.
Also- There were three bolts holding the ECU on. two hold the seal and one 10mm bolt through the center of the unit. the two nuts on the seal bolts are off as is the center bolt. However, the two seal bolts seem to be holding something as well that prevents the ECU from sliding out.
Am I missing something here that is holding the ECU in place?
after two hours I throw myself on the mercy of the forum. Thanks
You have to remove the screws that hold the stainless fender trim and then pull down on the plastic inner fender. With the fender liner out of the way the PCM will slide forward and into the engine compartment.
I think it has to come out through the cab you have to take the plastic kick plate cover by the e brake pedal off
After you remove the e-brake assembly you can access the back of the PCM to install or remove a chip but in order to clean the contacts in preparation for a chip the PCM has to be removed through the engine compartment.
